Starting 1 May 2025, the Mediterranean Sea will be designated as an Emission Control Area (ECA) for Sulphur Oxides (SOx). This regulation enforces stricter limits on Sulphur emissions from ships operating in the region to help reduce air pollution and improve environmental protection.
To support this regulatory change, the Mediterranean Sea (MEDECA) has been added to the list of Restricted Areas in the system. This ensures that voyages through the region comply with the new regulations. (See Figure 1 for reference)
