# The Map

The map used in Positions visualises whatever is present in the Vessel and Cargo columns.

* Resizable and responsive - defaults to roughly half the screen, with pan and zoom.
* Toggle Area zones on or off using the existing map layer control.
* Toggle Vessels or Cargoes on or off using the respective layer options.
* A legend shows the three vessel statuses and can be collapsed to save space.

<table><thead><tr><th width="189.2821044921875">Status</th><th>What it means</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Still at sea</strong></td><td>Current date is after the vessel's open date, based on its last scheduled port call and estimated days at sea.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Soon arrive at port</strong></td><td>Current date falls within the laycan period for the open position.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Soon finish discharge</strong></td><td>The vessel has been marked as Berthed.</td></tr></tbody></table>

* Only ports with at least one open vessel or cargo show a marker; marker badges show how many vessels/cargoes are at that port.

* Click a marker to open a Quick View pop-over for that port. The pop-over lists vessels and cargoes sorted by soonest-available first.

* Use the port search bar to jump straight to a port
* Hovering a card in either list column outlines the card and highlights its marker on the map; filtering either list updates the map to match.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.dataloy.com/release-8.34/voyage-management-system/step-by-step-guides/positions/the-map.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
